Join us for our Tourism Insider Meeting, hosted by the Iowa Tourism Office, in Pella on August 29-30. 

The Iowa Tourism Office launched the Tourism Insider series to provide opportunities for industry partners from across the state to gather, collaborate, share ideas and network. Pack your bags and take an educational trip to meet, learn from and engage with industry partners in new locations.

Schedule:

Tuesday, August 29 - Pella Opera House

  • 10:00 a.m. – Host community welcome by Pella Mayor Don Dewaard, followed by introductions
  • 10:15 a.m. – Iowa Tourism Office (ITO) update
  • 11:00 a.m. – Managing your destination's print publications 
    • Visitor brochures are undergoing many changes. How does your organization create compelling, inspirational content travelers want to read? What is the future of print brochures? 
    • Learn how the Travel Iowa guide has changed and how partners can be featured
    • Be ready to share learnings with other insiders! (Make sure you bring your own brochures along to share and compare.)
    • Small group discussions
  • 12:00 p.m. - Lunch (provided) by Central Catering
  • 12:30 – Tours of the Pella Opera House are available for those who want to join in!
  • 1:00 p.m. – Iowa Tourism Grant program update and tips with ITO's Lora Friest
  • 1:30 p.m. – Open Forum
  • 2:30-4 p.m. – two available tours, both repeated:
    • The Pella Historical Museum includes the Vermeer Windmill, the tallest working windmill in the US, and the boyhood home of Wyatt Earp. Our tour will include the new Wyatt Earp Experience which gives visitors a look at the Earp family's time in Pella.
    • Nederlanders Tap and Golf – Learn how two childhood friends started their successful business which combines simulation golf…and gourmet hotdogs!
  • 4 p.m. – Meeting Wrap-up at Nederlanders

A hotel block is available for Tuesday, August 29th at the Country Inn & Suites. To book, please call 641-620-1111 and ask for the Travel Iowa Insiders Meeting rate, which is $94 + tax each room.

Wednesday, August 30:

  • 8 a.m. – Morning networking at The Amsterdam Hotel. New owner BJ Stokesbury will share info about the hotel and his other endeavors with downtown buildings. A light breakfast will be sponsored by Visit Pella.
  • 9 a.m. - Volunteer Opportunity at The Well.
  • 10 a.m. - Meeting ends
